I am SO excited to be sharing this gorgeous new batch of poems with you. They don't have a specific quality that unites them as a collection: some are free verse, some have structure; some were written in the last month, some spread out amongst this year; some explore the people in my life, some look inwards. However, their themes bring them together.
This mini poetry collection is composed of five poems, all centred around becoming a teenager, finding your place and people, and embracing what makes you just a bit different. There are places in this collection where you find polar opposites, but there is a lot of them in being a teenage girl! Some poems are steeped in maturity and newfound wisdom and independence, but there are also areas of childlike, naive awe and innocence. I find the fact that both of these things can exist simultateously very beautiful and something you dont experience outside of your teenage years (mostly). These poems are very personal, and can all be tied back to a certain place, person or situation that has shaped my journey into and through my teenage years.
As a thank you to the readers of my blog, I have included a bonus poem that isnt available in the print edition. It is a favourite, and more gentle than the other poems. Like all of this collection, I am very proud of it, and I hope you enjoy giving it a read.
I am
I am a door you opened
and can not walk through
I am a brick wall
I am not for you
I am not for the hoax that makes you think I am
I am my own
I am indisputable
I am indescribable
Hurt and Heard
Ivory fingers grasp the edge of a mahoghany table
Kissed with the halo of a mug of hibiscus tea
I look down
You look at me
I try to put myself into words
But you are already hurt and heard
You are the tequila sunrise on the horizon
Grenadine
Born to be seen
Teenage dream
It's on my mind but it's in your blood
Lucky pennies in your eyes
Your heart a fountain
Your evenings navy blue
I'm used to running away but not running to you
Love Always
You are like a bomb
The way you shake the ground you walk on so silently
Perfectly poised in everything you do
Smart and sculptured and distant and new
You are past present future
Forever
I get that we are 95% stardust now
I cant put you into words
I cant put you into words
Every movement of yours is alive
Each flick of your hair a universe
There is an essay in every action
And heaven in your hands
Ethereal, powerful, angelic, fierce dont do the trick
And yet you are so strange
nobody like you and everyone in you
So quiet and controlled
So much I dont know but wish I did.
Love Always,
Daisy xx
Hopeless
Polka dots blue
Flowers and words that only fit you
Gone to waste, come on
I have nothing left to pay
No reason to stay
She is naive
She is hopeless
She was made for more
She is writing poems about things that never happened on the floor
She is romantic
She is sentimental
She is rare
She knows nothing more than how to create and how to care
The Recipe
This week I will allow
Equal amounts of joy into my heart
Measure out my thoughts and feelings
Like butter and sugar
Stick to the recipe
Be the same person yesterday and tomorrow
The clouds will not obscure my shine
The moon will reflect me at night
Dinner for two (bonus poem!)
It is suprisingly easy being stuck here with you
A chef for one cooking dinner for two
Talking quietly about the floods and my white nights masqueraded as blue
You are quite placid
I'm more hotheaded and I wish you would love that about me.
I wish you would love my passion and stupid ideas,
Tend quietly to my thoughts
The way you do to my art
Foster my fancies too
But we can't all be dreamers,
Everything and nothing
All at once
And we most certainly can't all be you.
